How to best support students during virtual learning:
  • Don’t be afraid to reach out to your child’s teacher
  • Ask questions – be specific about your needs
  • Seek virtual workshops through your district
  • Ask for videos / guidance on how to navigate the learning platforms
  • Reach out to other parents for support: culturally we are a communicative people
  • Give yourself space and grace to know that we are all in the same space – none of us know everything there is to know about virtual learning
  • Build a relationship with your child’s teacher
  • Know that your efforts are appreciated
  • Take a walk and get outside to enjoy your children outside of the stress
How to Best Prepare and Support your Child
  • Provide quiet working environment – to the best of your ability
  • Headphones, if possible, to decrease distractions
  • Be patient, every year brings new challenges and new learning
  • Encourage students to ask questions and / or seek 1: 1 or small group instruction with the teacher
  • If worse comes to worse, use youtube for further instruction for learning content such as math and language arts
  • The most important thing you can do to support learning is to be patient. This is traumatizing for students to be away from their friends and teachers. Especially to be with a teacher they’ve never met before.
  • Make sure they understand and follow the guidelines for virtual learning to get the most out of instruction
  • READ! Listen and watch youtube videos; seek reading sites such as epic, razkids, myON, ask the teacher for reading apps your child can access. Have them read to you
  • If they can’t read, they will struggle in all subject areas. They need to know how to read to understand the work.
  • Continue working on tapping into your cultural assets and create new traditions.
